Making School Safer: Weathertightness Upgrade at Wainuiomata Primary

A fresh chapter for one of Wellington’s oldest schools
Wainuiomata Primary, founded in 1857, recently underwent a critical transformation to futureproof its learning spaces. Brosnan was brought in to resolve weathertightness issues in the school’s main blocks—delivering both structural resilience and modern improvements.
We installed a fully engineered Saveboard system—durable, sustainable, and 100% recyclable—ensuring the building envelope was both safe and environmentally forward-thinking.
"We really enjoyed working with the team at Brosnan. Candice, Schalk, and Ross kept us well-informed and went the extra mile. The classrooms and verandah look amazing."
- Allison, Principal
Putting students at the centre
From day one, the project was shaped around the school community. We worked closely with staff to ensure the site remained safe and the build caused minimal disruption to learning. One of the most rewarding aspects? Monthly walkthroughs with a group of ten student representatives—equipped with safety passports—who documented progress and reported back to peers during assemblies.

More than a build
This project wasn’t just about fixing a roof. It was about giving a school community confidence in its future—while creating a safer, more inspiring place for tamariki to learn. We’re proud of what was delivered and even prouder of how it was done.
