Auckland District Court

Located in a busy location in central Auckland the Auckland District Court house required extensive recladding, including restoration of the deteriorating stone façade and mosaics.
Court hearings continued throughout the works, so minimising disruption and maintaining clear communication were critical requirements. The project encompassed three phases: assisting with the façade's design and obtaining building consent, repairing and maintaining the marble and granite stone on the façade, and remediating the tower façade.
The team conducted a scan of the stone façade to assess its condition, which determined the quantity of marble and granite required for replacements and repairs. The tiles were sourced from Italy, presenting challenges around timing and logistics. The existing stone was cleaned and maintained using high-pressure steam at 150°C.
The application of steam at this temperature required strict health and safety precautions, including Personal Protective Equipment, ensuring staff had relevant training, and keeping members of the public safely away from the steam. Additionally, the team remediated the tower by installing rain screen cladding and a membrane on the spandrels to ensure weathertightness, as well as addressing delaminating mosaic tiles.

"Brosnan were very responsive in this regard, and I was also impressed with the collaborative approach taken to the shared site establishment which in some cases extended to plant and access equipment. In general I found the Brosnan team very professional, communicative and easy to deal with. Brosnan was very fair and reasonable in negotiating additional associated costs. The standard of workmanship was very good, and QA issues were identified and addressed in a timely manner."
