Preserving the characteristic Art Deco apartment complex. through the Regional Historical Heritage Grant.
Marino Gardens is a 1936 Art Deco historic apartment complex situated at the heart of Mount Eden, Auckland.
In July 2024, Excel Roofing (a trusted partner of Brosnan in previous projects), which had been engaged for ongoing roof maintenance at Marino Gardens, saw the growing cost of repairs and suggested a more permanent solution. They referred Brosnan to the Body Corporate to deliver full tiled roof refurbishments.
To preserve the building's Art Deco character, we replaced the original roof tiles with new ones that match the original aesthetics while maintaining the copper gutters and bronze work. This includes a plaque awarding the design of Marino Gardens with the New Zealand Institute of Architects Gold Medal for1936.
Partly financed by the Auckland Council heritage building grant, the work also included insulation upgrades, chimney and plaster repairs, and waterproofing work, ensuring the building stands the test of time and keeps its role as a monument to Auckland’s history.
