Shotover Primary School

Shotover Primary School had been experiencing continued rapid growth in their student numbers and engaged Brosnan Construction to build a new 250 square metre classroom block to support additional students at the school. The team successfully managed the programme of works to meet a non-negotiable deadline and successfully delivered the new classroom block in accordance with the client’s original budget.

With the existing school continuing to operate during construction, Brosnan ensured effective communication channels were established early on between site staff, the client and the school caretaker. Operating within a live and sensitive environment, these clear and open communication processes ensured minimal disruption to students and faculty and assisted with the transition of goods and materials in and out of school grounds.

A key challenge during construction was extremely tight access in and out of the site as the new building was constructed independent of the existing school block with no direct access. The project team planned the programme of works around this barrier by creating cut off times to coincide with school start and finish times, which mitigated the likelihood of hazards and risks at the busiest times of day.

A commercial build, with an architectural spec, finished to a high quality expected in up-market retail location in the heart of Queenstown.

A difficult project to be completed within tight parameters and resource consent conditions.

Forecasted planning enabled a well-executed demolition process, minimizing disruption to adjoining businesses to ensure our ethos of Making a Positive Difference is adhered. This was done by working in shifts, to stage our noise and cranage works, working with the local businesses to find opportunities where mutually suitable time slots were utilized for large works to be carried out.  This also included for installation of precast items and structural steel assembly.
