Westwood Apartments

Constructed in the early 2000s, Westwood Apartments is a six-storey, 76-apartment building in Auckland. Like many structures from this era, the building was suffering from significant weathertightness issues. Installation of a new façade cladding system, partial roof replacement, and new fit-out for some of the apartments was a needed renovation for the longevity of the apartments.
Brosnan engaged with Symonite, an architectural façade specialist, to determine the finer details of the new cladding design. A survey of the building and the creation of new drawings took significant coordination, but allowed the team to visualise and plan how the new design would interact with the existing structure, protect the apartments from the elements, and update the look of the building.
The discovery of non-compliant passive fire protection increased the project’s scope. When confronted with this challenge, the team demonstrated tremendous flexibility and transparency in their communication with the client. All apartments were rectified, and they now comply with the New Zealand Building Code.
This was a successful project, with a quality finish, a satisfied client, and the delivery of modern, future-proofed apartments. The new cladding enclosed the balconies, increasing the size of the apartments and transforming how tenants will live in their homes.
