Following the award-winning completion of the ‘The Lindis’, a luxury lodge in the Ahuriri Valley, Brosnan was re-engaged by the client to deliver this upmarket lodge on the edge of Lake Hawea.

The project’s remote location brings about significant logistical challenges, particularly around long lead times, staff travel and the ability to accommodate site works and deliveries.

Prior to works commencing, a section of tarmac was introduced to ease traffic on a tight corner and to accommodate deliveries and trucks. The water pump system required upgrading to accommodate site works and Brosnan also sourced accommodation in Hawea and Wanaka for around 13 carpentry staff to assist with local resourcing.

The exposed alpine site is also subject to extreme winds—at one point blowing the site sheds to the other end of site. The sheds have since been strapped to concrete blocks and a weather station has been installed on site to help manage safety.

With the project manager based in Auckland, Brosnan and the architect in Queenstown, the engineer in Cromwell and staff travelling from as far as Dunedin and Invercargill to get to site, pre-planning and regular, clear communication are also critical to the project’s success.

This ambitious architectural design presents the team with plenty of challenges, but will ultimately lead to a world class finish for this valued repeat client.
